Accessing dance technique through the Feldenkrais® Method
June 23-27, 2008 - - - - $225
Human beings have a vast capacity for learning yet we also have the tendency for developing habits that cause pain and undermine higher learning and efficient functioning of the body. Tension, compensation, misunderstanding, fear, faulty or outmoded habits and injury all interfere with learning technique and making conscious artistic choices. The Feldenkrais Method offers an opportunity to address these concerns through exploration and sensitive movement refining.
In this workshop Augusta will use Feldenkrais movements to access forgotten parts of the body to assist students in developing an internal sense and trust of their bodies. Instead of simply trying harder, students will gain creative tools to solve movement problems through guided pattern exploration to allow for more optimal functioning and mastery.
Augusta Moore's Feldenkrais Method workshop is open to everyone in the community and no prior dance training is required. The Feldenkrais Method offers the opportunity to learn not from imitating the teacher but from an internal sensing and understanding that improves movement function and potential. The Feldenkrais Method emphasizes student experimentation offering a personal experience of one's own body which is applicable to all styles of movements and techniques. This workshop will emphasize the understanding of the arms, upper back, hip and foot relationship, and function in standing and is designed for all people who want to improve their bodily understanding in a fun and inventive environment.
